The ship is 49 metres long, has six decks and seven sails and weighs over 500 tonnes. 26 crew live and work on it.
It’s a replica of the ship used by the Spanish during the XVI to XVIII centuries and lined with iroko, beech and pine wood. Galleons such as this would have sailed between Spain, Mexico and the Philippines with spices.
There’s no cost to view the ship from the quay but if you’d like to go onboard there’s a fee to see this floating museum (adults £12, children up to 10 £5, under 5’s free). This covers a self-guided walking tour. It’s open 10:00 to 20:00.
Galeón Andalucía was built by the Nao Victoria Foundation at the Punta Umbria shipyard in Spain and first launched in 2009.
